I did not realize that he had been brought up in Jakarta in Indonesia. I did realize he had some Kenyan Muslim heritage. Jakarta in those days was not militantly Muslim. The Bali bombings and the US Embassy bombings were years away, and genocide against Chinese was more the order of the day, for the reason that many - but far from all - were tied up in the attempted Communist coup.
It would be really interesting to know what was taught at the school.
I do not know that it is fair to say he is covering it up, and if he had gone to school here, I would not bat an eyelid, but Indonesia, it is not terrible, but it warrants enquiry.

His father came to Hawaii as an exchange student, where he met a white woman, whom he married. They had a child and named him Barak Obama.. His father and mother got divorced when Barak was 2. From the age of 6-10 he went to Jakara, with his mother, where he attended school there. He then moved back to Hawaii, finished his education there, and attended Harvard, like his father the exchange student who was also educated at Harvard. The muslim was Barak Obama's grandfather. Although his father was not considered particularly devout or devoted to an religious principles.
Barak Obama refers to himself as a Christian. I do not see a cover up because the devout mulim was his grandfather, not his parents. He was not raised with this faith.

hmmm... I'm not American, but I'm guessing that if Obama does "cover up" his muslim childhood, it is because muslims are the group most discriminated against in the post 9/11 world.... Is his religion relevant? in that a responsible voter would vote on the basis of policies rather than on the basis of an individuals personal background.

He didn't have a "Muslim Childhood" to cover up. He attended a school in Indonesia that was run by Muslims. He was not brought up in the Muslim faith as you imply in your disingenous "question". He has explained this in his books and tnis has been discussed in the media ad nasuem, which you seem to have missed.

it's spelled Barack, and he doesn't cover up his childhood in Indonesia. He's a Christian now, why does his childhood matter.
stop being prejudice and grow up. Isn't it a major tenat of Christianity to love thy neighbor as thy self? Think about that next time when you get on your high horse.

He doesn't cover it up, he talks about it in his books and in his interviews. Obama's mother believed in teaching him about all religions, not just Islam. His father was Muslim, but he did not live with his father very much.
