Does anyone have good technical understanding of web-site hosting? Is it feasible for this site to have had so many hits in the past 2 weeks. The site must be hosted on some really high-end intrastructure. Only the likes of Google, eBay and Amazon have this much traffic.

The population of UK is 60 million so we have all visited it once plus all the international hits?

Or is this figure over-inflated deliberately and if so why?

No its not accurate at all - im a web developer and us developers alike all understand what a 'hit' really is.

Basically if i create a web page with 10 images and someone visits that page its not one hit but 10 hits.

I could create a webpage with 1 million tiny images on it and everytime its viewed i can claim 1 million hits!

Also alot of website visitor counting software has options to
start the count at a higher number and also increment in blocks of 3,4,5 etc...

They said it was about 75 million it is easy to rack up hits from double clicking especially with the amount of media attention this is what most online commerce sites want
they want media attention so the hits increase and the chances of something being sold

With the two minute video at Wembley by Zoe Wanamaker and the industry payout for information and the media coverage (international) 100 million is a drop in the ocean

What mohammed says is correct.

Also say I visit that page 10 times a day, then you can times all my 'hits' by 10 which is not a true reflection on how many people are actually coming to the site.

Also the site has done a naughty naughty by linking directly to the BBC's video stream without giving any credit. This is a lot of bandwidth usage that the site saves money on (and it can cost a lot of money trust me) and it just costs the BBC instead.

The guy who coded it obviously is a designer too and not a coder (just having another swipe as well lol)

it's interesting that even with this alleged amount of hits, they only have 50,000 messages of support. is it that people are visiting because they care about Madeleine but they don't wish to leave messages of support for her parents?
And the amount of donations seems incredibly low for that many hits.
Still after King McCann does his whirlwind tour of the UK I presume donations will increase ten fold

as i said in a nother question: can people stop talking about The McCanns as its there own fault for leaving a three year old kid in a Hotel room when they go out for a meal.
