Why is it water sink into a drain always turn couterclockwise?

It was long held as a kind of scientific urban myth that the coriolis effect caused this to happen. That water turned clockwise in the northern hemisphere and counterclockwise in the southern. But it is demostrably not true.

The coriolis effect is real enough, but it does not rule in micro-phenomena like the drainage of water. It does, however have an effect on tidal movement and air air-circulation.

It doesn't is right. Based on the shape of the sink and how level it is usually play a part in how the water drains.
