How much or how little does military experience play in your decision when you vote for a Presidential candidate? And, why or why not?

As a veteran I am concerned about three things.
1. Defense of the nation
The Presidents first responsibility is to protect the nation and its people. Candidates who talk about getting UN permission and want international cooperation are people who are not qualified to lead Americas. An American leader first and foremost is responsible to Americans not to the UN or to France or Germany.
2. Character
The American President must have character. We have had several Presidents who lacked character. One Presidents every action was designed to enhance his wealth, his personal prestige or his sex life. His actions were not those of a leader but those of a self absorbed gready power hungry individual. Another didn't understand the American people and their greatness. His party burdened us with heavy taxes and when the Americas had been driven to economic exhaustion, he complained that Americans were pathetic and weak. He was wrong. He was pathetic and weak.
3. Knowledgeable
The President must understand the strengths of our economic system and the legal foundations of our nation. Our free market system has flaws but overall it is the strongest best functioning economic system ever devised. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights are two of the greatest documents ever written. Those documents define what it means to be an America.

To sum it all up, as a vet I look for an indvidual who is a leader concerned about America and Americans. Someone who is understands the concept of 'America' and someone with the character to be the leader of the greatest nation ever seen on this planet.

I served 4 years in the military however that experience has very little to do with my Presidential vote. My decision on who to vote for is based on an examination of the candidates positions on all the issues and how well there position matches my own. I look at voting records (if any) as well as stated position on all the topics. I never find one that I agree with completely but I vote for the one that I agree the most with.

I think military experience is important, because the President is Commander of the military.

Would you put someone in charge of building a neighborhood who had never built a house?

Would you let someone run a zoo who had never liked animals?

Would you make someone the President of a bank who had never opened a savings account?

The sad thing is, many of the candidates have no military experience at all.
Hillary has none. Obama has none. Edwards has none. Romney has none. Giuliani has none.

Ron Paul was in the Air Force though! Had to throw that in, I love Ron Paul.

Military experience is a character builder but not necessary to get my vote. I want a person of strong character and beliefs. I want someone that is honest. But after seeing the last 2 presidents, I want someone that can build a group of people around him that will lead the country and challenge him to bring this country back from the abyss of darkness that it is now.
