If your making a large size stick house paint the cardboard brown in various shades and then attach a few real branches in various places. I would try Aleene's craft glue or hot glue to get it to stay. You could also use coffee cans painted brown filled with plaster of Paris and then put a lot of branches in. Place the coffee cans around the house to give the illusion. You would need a lot of cans and branches and they aren't going quite the traditional way but it might work!

Could you purchase some of the white styrofoam stuff from the hobby shop and sticks the sticks/branches into it and place them around the edge of the house. (Almost like potted plants around a house.) Paint the styrofoam to match the sticks. Or I would try painting sticks all over the box.

I would use a cardboard backing with 1x1 supports, paint it the rough color of the "sticks"... and then hot-glue bunches of sticks to the cardboard.

Perhaps you can find long sticks like pussy-willow branches at a local florist ? Bunch them with string, and then hot glue.

Good Luck !!

could you use popsicle sticks? The flat, rounded-at-the-end wooden type. or maybe the standard for preschool plays is higher than i remember.
