I recently bought a new PC with windows vista, it uses about 700 Mb of RAM even when i am not doing anything and the CPU usage always jums from 5 to 20 or more percent. Is everything ok with my PC? Does vista normaly use so much memory?

Vista is a resource hog that completely disappointed me. I bought a new PC with it installed (not upgrading an older PC) and it was so frustrating that I scrubbed it off and installed XP.

Vista won't install and run programs that worked fine on older computers. The voice-chat capability doesn't work with any protocol (without hacking it with a plug-in). All it does is make 3-D stacks of windows on the monitor. Big friggin deal.

I don't see any benefits to Vista at all. Microsoft dropped the ball on this one (worse than with their ME edition)

Of course, Vista use too much memory, that's why other people think that Vista is faster than XP. Just think about it, if Vista has no visual effects or some 3-D chess, those are not much important, then it could work on just 256 MB of RAM. That's why other people switch to XP rather than Vista.

Vista takes a lot of RAM and CPU cycles even if you are not running an application.

Main sink for power and RAM are the 'user friendly' AERO graphics engine, which makes it look beautiful without doing anything else.

So, if you are using Vista, you will see your RAM and CPU useage jumping up, and as soo as you start an application, it will go higher.

Vista uses a lot of RAM and CPU cycles. Most of the power is required for the Aero interface. If you disable that then it would consume less power.

Vista 32bit versions have the same limitations as 32 bit XP. 32bit addressing is 4GB max. Then you have to subtract the addresses for the PCI controller and a few other things the system needs. AND:If you have a graphics card that uses shared (system) memory, it subtracts even more from what is left out of the 4GB 64bit Operating systems can address more than 4 GB of memory.

Well if you read the MINIMUM requirements for Vista.. that seems about right. Notice with the minimum, the system will work (not fast but it will work).

Yes it does, thats why Microsoft recommended 1GB minimum, really you need 2GB to run it in a speedy pace.
