Hi. I am conducting a survey on the above question. If a beggar asked you to charge your credit card by $1 only, would you trust him your credit card number? Please answer YES/NO and a brief explanation.
Thanks.

It depends what the beggar looks like. A lot of people here, mostly Gypsies, are organized into groups and they rotate their locations each day. 8 year old kids begging while they talk on their mobile phones, and then spending their money on sniffing glue aren't really people I would give my money to. Neither are obvious alcoholics.
However, I've given money to people that are obviously living on the street in a card box, or if he looks in really bad shape. I guess I could walk with him to an ATM machine and give him $1 from my credit card. But give him my card... well, I don't give it to my friends, why would I do it for a total stranger?

I did not think beggars would want to use our credit cards.

But I have been asked before for spare change by different homeless type people over the years.

It's always tricky knowing what to do when they come and ask for money coz you dont know if its for drugs or alcohol or even something much worse.

But then you wonder what if this person just wants a bite to eatr and is hungry?

You never know.

But I heard someone say you could say yes to them if they ask for money then walk with them to the nearest McDonalds (for example) and offer to buy them lunch/hamburger.

That's just an idea I heard and I think it's great.

That way you know the money isn't going to bad use (drugs etc). but you are also helping them. :-)

Of course not. I would not put a poor person in that sort of jeopardy... He is much more likely to have a need to be dishonest and misuse the credit card info.

I would, however, give him every bit of cash I had, if he looked to be in need (I can safely say this, because I rarely have more than 20 or 30 dollars on me.)

A $1 is one thing but not a credit card number there are family members I wouldn't give that to!

No, in the US ID theft is now a common practice among thieves. They don't need anymore info from me or anyone else to be cheats. They'd probably give the beggar a few hundred dollars for the info, all from an act of so-called kindness. I would certainly give him/her a $1.00, but it would be coins or paper only.

Of course not, I'd give him a $10, and a forty ounce to boot. Beggar's aren't necessarily unintelligent people, and they are sometimes; just sometimes in that situation because of substance abuse, your credit card # would be like the CRACK lotto; you silly rabbit, good question though!

No way...I don't trust anyone to my credit card number. I'd give him some change, gave a person the other half to my sandwich once in Arizona.

I wouldn't trust anybody I had just met with my credit card number! I would however give him the $1 so he could pay by cash.

Yes, for reason that I am a beggar, and No regarding credit cards, given that I wisely choose not to own one:)
