I know I will get a plethora of thumbs-down for this, but having spent 40+ years in the NYC metro area, I still love watching the NY Yankees play.
But, Lemme 'splain why, Lucy....
Baseball always reminds me of the summertime. My parents always had the Yankees on, and it reminds me of long summer days and nights, watching and rooting with my family. My dad and I always used to go to the stadium too, and it was time we spent together that I remember most...my mitt in my hand hoping to catch a stray foul ball. My Dad is long passed, and my mom lives in Arizona now...but at 73 she has a sattelite dish JUST so she can still watch the games (which I did with her just over a month ago).
So for me, the Yankees are not just "the evil empire", but someplace I always have, and always will, call a piece of home.
