Your set up is pretty powerful for Red Alert 2. For other games, especially newer ones, it depends on your video card model, not just the amount of videoram. 512mb is not always fully utilized in games. For the same video card model, 256mb ddr3 will beat 512mb ddr2 ALL THE TIME. If you have at least 7900GS or X1950 Pro, then, you could play most games at enjoyable settings.

You can play it. It'll play smoothly :D
My PC 1,8GB 512MB 128MB VGA can play it on both XP and 98 and ME (I installed all of it on my PC). Im not try to play it on Vista, yet. So I guess it'll be fine with your PC. Except if you have vista.
Here the minimum system requirements for RA2:
Windows 95/98/2000/NT,
266 MHz Pentium II Processor, 64 MB RAM (450 MHz processor and 128 MB RAM needed for 3-8 player multiplayer game), 4x CD-ROM, 2 MB video card,
DirectSound-compatible soundcard

It will run perfectly, but be sure your OS is in Windows XP mode because Vista has much trouble problems in opening an application.
