Is a lifetime possible? Or 50 years, 10 years?

As long as you don't damage it or expose it to too much sunlight, it should last a long time. Digital media doesn't lose quality like a cassette or vhs would so as long as the DVD is taken care of, you shouldn't have any problems with it.
