my baby is now 6 months old. since i have started some solids, (3 weeks ago) i have noticed that she is peeing much less than normal. she sleeps really well and only wakes up once to drink. i am breastfeeding still. did anyone every notice this in her kids?

she drinks every 3 to 4 hours during the day each feed lasting around 10 minutes. i am not giving her any water as i was told by a breastfeeding counsellor that breast milk has all the water/nutrients the baby requires.

Please add more details... how often are you brestfeeding besides the one feeding at night...

are you also giving her sufficient baby water throughout the day?

Hey, I would get a second opinion about the breastfeeding vs water thing. Only reason I ask, decreased urine could mean she is dehydrated... Plus, the longer you wait to introduce water to them, the harder it is to get them to drink it! I'd try slipping her some diluted juices or water during the day just to see how many ounces she will willingly drink and also check the diapers... try that maybe?

When you are exclusively breastfeeding, it is true, the baby does not need additional water. But once you start offering solids, you will need to start giving some water to prevent both dehydration and constipation. I usually offer water with every meal and let him drink as much as he wants. My baby is 8 months, and is eating solids 3 times per day, so I try to give him 3-5 ounces of water per day (if he refuses, I mix about 10% apple or white grape juice in with it).

Ok...breast feeding is always good but little kids need water too...nothing hydrates the body better than water, not even breast milk...The ony time my daughter didn't urine as much was when she was dehydrated...Give the kid more water...

if she is not crying out in sheer pain, i wouldn't worry. but to be on the safe side, you might want to talk with her doctor.
