Brett Favre is still one of the best QBs in the game. He is helping his team but his numbers are down because he hasn't had the key players around him to create a successful offense. That, and because his team is always trailing because of a defense full of holes. He is put in a situatioin where he constanly has to throw the ball down the field, leading to risky passes and interceptions. This is certainly not Favre's fault. Are there other QB's in the league who could currently do a better job? Maybe but Favre would not be out of a job for long if they were to pick up someone else.

Well, there are a couple of factors to consider to determine if he's hurting or helping the team. 1) Is the team looking towards the future to become a successful team, once again or are they trying to win now? 2) How long does Brett Favre plan on being in the league?
If the Packers are looking towards the future by re-building, then Favre could be hurting the team, because it doesn't give a new quarterback time to "gel" with the team. In a situation like that, the only way Brett is not hurting the team is if, he and/or the organization plans on keeping him around for another five seasons, which I seriously doubt.
Now, if the team is trying to win now, which doesn't seem to be the case, then Favre is helping the team, because there are not too many quarterbacks available who are better than him. The best free agent quarterback available is probably Drew Bledsoe and he's not too much younger than Brett Favre nor do I rate him as being better than Brett. So there's no need in spending extra money on Bledson, when the team already have Favre.
That's just my opinion on the subject.

at this point i think he is hurting the Packers. how many years does he have left? if he still wants to play the Packers should trade him. yes he is still one of the better QB's in the league but if they dont bring in the talent to be a contender there is no real reason to keep him. well other than he puts fans in the seats.
Favre staying is only delaying the inevitable which is the Packers being really, really bad for a few years if they draft well, and really, really bad for a long time if they dont.
but i think the Packers have an outside chance of making the playoffs this year, they went from what 4-12 to 8-8 last year?
there is hope yet.

He's helping them in the short term, because he's better than any other QB they could field.
He's hurting them in the long term, though, because they arent going to field a contending team in the few years he has left. They need to rebuild and create a new core of franchise players, and they won't as long as they're trying to force things with Favre, Al Davis-like. Its better for them in the long term to let Rodgers make his rookie mistakes now, so that in a few years, when they're ready to compete with Chicago for the NFC North, he's seasoned and ready to lead them.
If the Packers were smart - and of course the fans would fry them like a battered stick of mozzarella if they tried to - they'd trade Favre to a team that's only a good QB short of a playoff run, someone like....oh, Miami? Houston? Jacksonville? Or Cleveland, I'm sure they'd love to have Favre to tutor Quinn for a year. But the Packers should cash in on Favre while they can, get some picks and some young talent, rather than ride him to the ground for the sake of "fan loyalty" or whatever, and then be left with nothing when he retires.

I believe that if they had the weapons around Farve that we wouldnt even be asking this question. Brett is not hurting the Packers. He is helping them by giving them a better chance to win every week. Put in Aaron Rogers and see how many games they win. Maybe 2. Farve is arguably the best QB ever and still has the desire to play. If Vick gets suspended id love to have him "hurting" the Falcons. The Packers are hurting themselves by not helping Farve not the other way around.

Every team needs to find the balance between experience and youth, however Brett Farve is hindering the Packers. The team is still moulded to suit him and not around any new quarterback. Brett Farve is hurting the Packers and in the long run it will take them a ages to become a great team again!

He's certainly helping. He's still one of the better QBs in the league and still has one of the strongest arms. He carried the team quite a few times last year. Their back ups are still pretty unproven and haven't looked good in the pre-season games. He brings a lot of knowledge and leadership to the huddle. He definitly isn't hurting the Packers.

I think he is hurting them because he is already mad about not getting randy moss and he is getting old. Brett isn't the gunslinger he used to be, and show's signs of weakness' here and there. He really should have retired last year but i guess he can't give it up. I would say put Aaron Rodger's in give him a chance to show what he can do.

He is my favorite QB of all time, but he is doing both. At this very instant he is helping, b/c they don't have anyone better; but he is hurting them long term, by not giving over the ropes.
