Perhaps on the local level. The Department of Housing and Urban Development gives money to states, localities and faith based charities. If you haven't heard much about this Department, it's probably because they're not doing much, consistent with the neoconservative philosophy of ignoring the poor and unfortunate. Here is a link to HUD's minimally informative website:

Yes, quite a bit of gov't help is available to those who want it.
The trouble is with the homeless themselves. They won't do what they have to do to get off the streets. Don't waste the energy on trying to solve an unsolveble problem.

Of course they are. The homeless need to help themselves as well. The Republicans measure success by how many people they can help OFF the system, the Democrats measure success by how many people they can get ON the system. Helping people off the system is the only right thing to do. Every person in America can get food, clothing, shelter and health care if the want it.

Is the homeless doing anything to help the homeless?

Many homeless made a choice, the government (me and you and every other taxpayer)should not have to pay for it.

As for those that are actually disabled whether mentally or physically they can seek a shelter.

Illegal aliens pour in to the country and arrive homeless. What are they doing that prevents them from being bums?

Yes it is for a matter of fact!

Last year according to the figures I have been able to find the Federal Government did actually allocate a sum of money that amounted to approximately $75.00 per each homeless person we had in the USA!

That certainly pales in view of all of the Billions of dollars that we are wasting in that cesspool called Iraq!
