I have often heard that women don't know their real bra size, but thought I knew mine.I knew I had out grown my B cup, & decided to measure myself to figure out what size bra I need. I was rather suprised to find that I am a D cup.
I think some women underestimate their cup size, due to confusion or in some cases, poor self esteem.
So...heres the favour. Measure yourself & let me know what cup size you THINK you are, then what size you really are.
Its a bit hard to do on your own, so if you have a partner get them to help.
Measure (in inches) the size of your chest immediately below your breast. Then measure around the largest part of your chest.
Subtract the 1st measurement from the 2nd. ie 1st measurement 30inches, 2nd measurement 34inches
34-30=4
Each inches(of difference)is a cup size
1=A 2=B 3=C 4=D 5=DD 6=DDD
Why ask this? Because I want to know how many of us are getting it wrong&raise awareness, as poor fitting bras result in pain & other problems
Thanks!

I was taught that you measure around your chest under your breasts. IF it is an even number add four, if it is an odd number add five (since you never see band sizes in odd numbers).

The rest you said is the rest of what I've learned with sizing myself.

If people are awkward about doing this, then go to Nordstroms or JCPenney or Sears (not VS as they size wrong).

Judy, they make up to an MM size.

AAA, AA, A, B, C, D, DD, DDD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H, HH, J, JJ, K, KK, L, LL, M, MM are all the cup sizes that I know of.

(I was a 38J reduced to a 38C)

I don't think that is correct actually. After you measure under your bust, you normally need to add several inches to allow for the fact that the ribcage expands. You usually add between 3-5 inches depending on whether you have a small or large back.

My underbust mesaurement is 29 inches and my full bust measurement is 35 inches. I have a small back, so I only add three inches and wear a 32C. You can also measure your upper ribcage under the armpits and use this measurement as your band size without adding any numbers and just subtract it from your bust measurement to find the cup size. It's possible the upper ribcage measurement could be the same as the underbust measurement for some women, but it is usually a few inches more.

HTH.

All my bras are a 44DDD. I just measured and it was 44 band, and 55 around the biggest part of my chest (yes, I'm a plus-sized girl). So that would be 11 inches different...but I don't know if they even make bras with bigger cups than mine. I've found that different brands of bras really vary in size, too. Also, when you're plus-sized, there's some back fat (for lack of a better description) that can interfere with getting an accurate measurement for a bra.
