Vote Libertarian to get rid of "victimless crimes". Prostitution has turned into just another people control issue for the republocratic politicians(magicians!). Firearms, tobacco, seatbelts, bike helmets, PC, junk food & the list goes on & on & on. A guy takes his date out for dinner & decides to pay for both as a gesture of respect to her. If they end up after dinner spending the night in intimacy, is that prostitution? I mean he spent half of the dinner/drink tab on her, right? Vote on the Libertarian ticket to get YOUR freedoms/country back.

I agree, it dosnt make sense. I think normally if someone is caught paying for sex, it is them, rather than the person recieving the money, that it in trouble. So I guess its the 'paying' for it that is illegal. i could be wrong.
It is such a grey area, many things can be construed as 'payment for sex' when that is never the intention, e.g. an older man who has married a younger woman to look after him in old age, looks after her by paying for everything etc giving her a roof over her head, she in return comforts him, sleeps with him as husband and wife, is he paying for sex?? is she selling herself??
I think as long as all parties involved are consenting adults, they should be left to make their own choices without the fear of breaking the law.

Prostitution is generally frowned upon due to morals. The risk of STDs being spread is almost completely ignored.
Unfortunately, morals are used to stop lots of behaviors. Alcohol can't be sold after a set time of day in most states (why?). Morals are the basis of not allowing XXX rated entertainments in a large part of the country. The thing that gets me is rules for strip clubs. In most places, only so much can be exposed if there is alcohol sold, but dancers can be completely nude if there is no liquor license. Explain the logic in that one.

Sex for money is by law, prostitution. And prostitution is illegal, as it is a service that exploits the body.
The answer to how, is because the government say so and have done for centuries!
Also, did you know.....I think it was the 1800s or later, legislation was passed wherein prostitutes could not "be raped", because they had sex for a living. So if ever a prostitute was raped, they couldn't prosecute the rapist!

Well, the reason for the law is reduce oppounities to be unfaithful really. I think prositution should be legal if the women are over the age of 21, and are checked monthly for STDS, and other diseases, and the prositution is legal in Holland they had no problems with it. Redlight district to smut, and filth is better than putting it underground where pimp hooked them up with drugs and force it on them.

It doesn't, but anything that involves an exchange of money that the government can't get their cut of will be illegal.
Cigs and alcohol are big killers, with mary jane not being one that anyone really knows of, but it's taxed and regulated, unlike weed, so it's not ever going to be illegal.

I agree it is draconian. People marry and a lot do it for financial stability which can be seen as what you have stated.

I often wonder, why a guy takes a woman out to dinner and pays a lot of money just so he might get in her pants. Would it not be easier just to cut to the chase and pay her!

if you give someone money and they have sex with you because they want to not because they are prostituing then by all means i think thats great.
but giving someone money in exchange for sexual favors is very damaging to that persons life and very damaging to the way they will live for the rest of their life....
its not just the sex....its their life being taken from them....their innocence....
