My friends anyway are only distant if they want space, and I am much the same way. I just let them know I am there for them to listen or for whatever else they need when they are ready. I never let them think they are forgotten.

Just by being there for them in every other way possible...you dont necessarily have to be literally close to them to be there for them....just always be available as you can to talk...and by showing them that even though you´re far away...you will still be there for them, because friendship is about a deeper connection, that distant cannot break, unless you let it....
