I'm military and working on a government computer. A LOT of our sites have been blocked from our work computers, and I'm wondering if there's a way to get around this firewall?? We can't access stuff like personal email, or youtube or myspace.. kinda sucks!

Ok first of all check to see if you are accessing the internet through the proxy. If you have Internet Explorer go to Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN settings. If there is a checkmark next to "use a proxy..." option means they have you working through a proxy, which is probably their own, in this case sorry to say but there is not much you can do. (unless you can get to the computer it is running on and tinker with the settings - NOT RECOMMENDED UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. ) If no proxy is specified that means one of two things either you have some retarded software installed that is blocking these sites or there actually is a firewall. What you can try to do is google a free proxy server and try to specify it in that field. Read some manuals that are available on the web if you have any questions.

Those restrictions were placed there so that users won't be wasting taxpayers' money doing personal things w/ gov't PCs. Visiting unauthorized sites can cause a lot of unwanted network intrusion that could potentially shut the whole system down. The Generals surely want their asses covered all the time.

Depends on the type of firewall. But if it's government, I'm certain it's a good one. I wouldn't suggest trying it. They might look down on it a bit!

Sorry. The sites were blocked because too many of you were using them for non military purposes.

If you're using a government computer, you should read the warning banner that is supposed to appear on your screen just before you log on.
