Hi. WEST SIDE STORY . When i first saw this movie back in 1961 i was totally mesmerized by it. I was 16 at the time.I loved it so much i must have seen it about a dozen times at a Cinema in Sydney. And now 46 years later i can see it on my 10 foot screen and relive it all over again .One of the quotes of this movie was "Unlike Other Classics West Side Story Grows Younger."
Another one of my favorites is Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO.
It is truly a classic in horror movies which others have imitated without success .
Most of the young people of today are only interested in movies made during the past 10 years with mind blowing special effects .Movies made 40 years ago would be too old fashioned for them ,which is a shame.

1) Akira - The movie that set the standard for animation which still holds its own against stuff today.
2) Highlander - high cheezy factor, bad scottish accents, dodgy special effects, but a bunch of immortals going round having sword fights in ealry 80s Manhatten... gotta love it.
3) Gattaca - a preview of a future where kids are genetically engineered rather than born.
4) American Beauty - the comic self destruction of a middle aged man.
5) The Shawshank Redemption - the most uplifting film you'll ever see. No ones ever been a more deserving escapee than Andy Dufreyne.

I like Titanic also but I also liked Shindler's List alot. I don't know if I would say that either of these are the greatest of all time. I'm somewhat too tired at this time to think back on the GREAT movies as there are so, so many of them. But I really do love both of those. Have a good day.

I will go with "The Wizard Of OZ", and "Gone With The Wind". All the ones you listed are great films and to choose a favorite out of your list, I will go with the Harry Potter series.
