Well, breastfeeding is best but...

I personally like the Enfamil better and thankfully neither of my kids ever had any problems on it.

The main reasons I like Enfamil better:

1) The consistency of Enfamil is more of a light, loose powder. The Similac is a very "clumpy" powder. The Enfamil disolves a lot easier in the water, the Similac I had to stir and stir and stir... and there were still clumps. The Enfamil still has clumps every now and then but not as bad.

2) WIC helps me with the Enfamil formula so that is nice. :) With my daughter we didn't qualify for WIC so we paid for every can out-of-pocket... which was a total of a small fortune after 11 months of buying it! For my son, they have helped us from day 1 and it has been a blessing!

Nutritionally I'd probably say they are pretty much the same...

I started with Similac at the hosp and had samples of both. We tried similac as long as we could but he had gas after every feeding & just didnt seem to like it much unless we bought the premade. I tried Enfamil after and have not had a problem with it at all he goes right to sleep most of the time after and has cut back on the crying quite a bit!! I say Enfamil but every baby is different the baby will let you know which one they like and if you cant tell a difference they don't care so whichever one you like I think Enfamil mixes much better when making bottles similac clumps up alot I notice. hope it helped and goodluck!!

At first i used Enfamil Lipil. The first month of using it, my baby was very fussy. But the doctor said it wasnt colic and to try switching formulas. Well, the formula is supposed to take 3 days for the baby to get used to it. So i tried Similac isomil advance. And i swear, 3 days later she had changed so much! It was like night and day. She has been using it ever since (she is now 7.5 months), and she has been fine. I dont think the similac is too lumpy either. I actually think they are about the same. So, if your child isnt fussy, i guess enfamil would be ok. But if your child is fussy..i would try a small can of similac..it worked great for my lil girl! Thank god! :)

There is no conclusion to which is better... I believe the 'decision' is made by the baby.

For example, if you decide on Similac (or Enfamil) and you feed your baby with it. You might face problems like hard stool, rashes, etc.

Buy only a small can to have it 'tried' out and when you are sure that it is the one for the baby then you start buying bigger can...

I use enfamil. It is really good iv never had problems with it. Or my kids havent. Also i like the texture of it better then similac. Similac is like powder and the enfamil is different. But i like it way better. Everyone i know with kids uses enfamil.

Breastmilk. Enfamil dissolves better, but my nephews and nieces had fewer tummy troubles with Similac. WIC uses Enfamil, so if you are getting WIC, there you go. Talk with the doctor. You will need a formula with iron but formula isn't very well tolerated by newborns so you may have some trouble with gas. Don't switch until you talk with your doctor.

Depending on which kind you get, they are all pretty much the same. I use Nestle Good Start Supreme with DHA and ARA which is found in breastmilk. I recommend that because it has comfort proteins which breaks up gas bubbles that can be painful to your baby. It also can't get any closer to breastmilk unless it was. My daughter absolutely loves it. You may chose a formula for your baby to use and then the baby may be allergic to it. If you are going to be in WIC they no longer use Enfamil and now use Nestle Goodstart. I know because I was going to be in WIC and received that notice. Also don't change formula unless you have to due to allergies or something like that. Its not good for the baby. It also depends on what your baby needs. She/he may need more iron or whatever. Or she/he may not be able to have one that is milk based. DHA and ARA are important to have. Whatever your choice they are all good ones.

I think as far as nutrients, they're the same. I recently started my baby on Emfamil Lipil (because they gave us a sample at the doctor's office) and he didn't seem crazy about it. When that ran out, I cracked open the Similac Advance sample and the texture is much different....less powdery. My little one took to that much better. Just be sure to get the kind with the Lipil or DHA and ARA....better for your baby than the regular formula.

I used Similac for my first daughter. She did pretty well on it. When my second daughter was born, I used it also, but it constipated her up very badly. I switched to a formula called SMA, or S&A, I don't right remember it, and she did much, much better. But I don't think they make it any longer. It was over 15 years ago. Carnation is another good one.

Walmart brand.

Seriously, just like diapers, formula is formula is formula. The big difference is if your baby needs something special, like he can't tolerate regular formula and needs soy. But as far as brand names go, no difference whatsoever.
