My Father lived depressed, agonizeing over seeing WW 11 young soldiers screaming in pain laying dieing in mud in dark damp trenches.Sitting thinking in the dark or crying sobbing drinking singing 'The Great Rugged Cross' seemed normal .
He died from starvation alone in a room faceing the pacific ocean, His long white hair straggleing midway down his back , fingernails long . I didn't see him often. I left his care at twelveish, seen him near twenty, next near thirtyish. He laughed happily, he cried sorrowfully. I think he found Jesus, i'm not sure ahead of dieing. At the cremitorium six of his nine children , not me , were there.

I remember my dad was never too tired to give us hugs.My dad would take us on Sunday drives and we'd go on pony rides at Dale farm.I remember a family picnic and a bee kept buzzing around and my dad grabbed 2 pieces of bread and pretended to eat it.We were young enough to believe he really did.My dad was firm but fair. He gave us an appreciation for history and learning.Summer vacations meant trips to the old forts, Black Creek Pioneer Village, the Royal Ontario Museum (always the rocks first).He taught us by the way he lived his life that family was important. My dad was active in our church and an active community leader. I come from a large family and even though times were sometimes tough I never felt anything lacking in my life.My dad always did his crosswords in pen and I did the same. A little lesson in confidence I think.My dad liked to putter in the garden.My dad ,was an ordinary man who worked hard each day and did the best he could.He was a living example to his family. One of his favorite hymns was "Standing by a Purpose True" and while not a typical funeral hymn we played it at his funeral out of respect for him.

~~~ I always believed "Monsters" were hiding in my bedroom......jEst waiting to "Get Me" after I feel asleep. When I was a little kid my dad would leave the hallway light on for me to discourage the monsters.Monsters are scared of the light you know. Haha! He'd always do the usual checking under the bed and the closet for stowaways. The monsters must of really wanted to get me bad, because they kept lurking up until I was in my late teens. Okay Y.S.D. don't laugh. I was an imature late bloomer.My Dad never belittled me for this irrational fear. He jEst calmly looked for said monsters, and would point out in a nice way that they were jEst shadows. I guess he worried about me when I got to be too old for all the monster nonsense, because he talked to me and got Spiritual......which was rare for my Dad. It did the trick, because to this day whenever I think there are "Monsters" around I know how to get rid of them on my own. Thanks Dad. R.I.P. ~~~
My parents were divorced when I was 3. I didn't see him again until I was 8 and then he left for a few more years and now he rings sometimes.
I have no memories except those.
One of my most cherished memories of my dad is when I was 6. My parents bought Disney records of music for kids. My dad would put one on, then take my hands into his hands, and dance me around the living room in a silly circle, swinging our hands, and sometimes lifting me up off the ground.
Wow...well every morning before school he would braid my very long hair. He built me a tree house in the back woods and taught me how to ride a bike. He used to have a mustache that tickled my cheek when he'd kiss me. And he'd spend Saturday mornings watching cartoons with me. He was proud of my achievements...and every year, since I was five-years-old...he took me out to a fancy restaurant (just me and him) to celebrate my birthday...
I remember he took me in his truck once, and at a stop he brought me a toffee apple.
It was a fun time. I think I was 3 or 4 years old.
