We are going to the snow for the first time ever in New Zealand. We only have clothes for him that suit a subtropical climate ie QLD (so we have to start from scratch).

I live in Minnesota, USA. We have a lot of snow in the winter, you will need a lot of layers. Layers are your best friend. Onesies are good as the first layer because they absorb sweat if the baby gets a little hot so the baby won't lose body heat as fast if he gets cold again. You will want something like a sleeper on next (put some socks underneath). After the sleeper, you will want a sweater/jacket etc and some pants. If it is really cold, then put a snowsuit on over the sleeper. Shoes can keep the toes warm, but 3-4 pairs of socks will too. You may want shoes as he is getting old enough to want to stand. Of course a hat or two. You will want mittens or extra socks for the baby's hands too. Assume you will need all of this everyday. So take at least one onesie and sleeper per day plus a few extra. Its best to have one or two extra pairs of shoes or boots and a lot of socks and mittens so that they can be changed when they get wet. As for the pram, it won't be too cold but you will want some blankets to put on the baby. You can put a blanket on and completely cover the pram if the wind is blowing (or hold the baby with his face next to your body). Sun reflects off of snow so you will want some sunscreen. Wind, sun and runny noses (cold air makes noses run) can cause chapped skin so bring your favorite baby lotion and some Chapstick (petroleum jelly/white petrolatum can be good to put on already chapped cheeks and noses). Cold air is really dry so you will want to make sure that the baby gets plenty of breastmilk/formula. Babies that age don't have the muscles strength to participate in most snow sports, so no sledding etc. You can set the baby on a sled and pull him gently around a yard though, they love that. Some babies like the feel of snow, some hate it. I hope that helps you, if you need some more help (or you need some help trying to translate something we say differently in america), you can always email me. Hope that helps.

i used a vest then babygrow then jumper then socks ,gloves and a snow suit ive got a few theyre great for kids i would also put a cozytoes on your pram and rain cover .you can also apply sunblock toyour childs face so not to burn os chap!you can buy a lot of padded trousers for them aswell but layers is the key i think as long as he can move about he will be ok ,his pram will also be fine as long as hes not sat too long at a time and hes dry and wrapped up.enjoy your holiday hope this helps.

Lots of things to layer. Like a onsie with a one fo those sleepers ( i cant remeber what they are called) Or whatever else clothes he will be wearing. I just moved back from Germany and i always layered beacuse if you go eat somewhere or go in somewhere all you have to do is take a layer off..lol. I got one of those body jackets also for when we were playing in the snow. Also there is this thing to cover an infant car seat if hes still in one. Make sure to bring hats and gloves for him also that wind is awful. Have fun!!
