There are a couple of high-quality USB mics now available, more info here:
http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/studio/USB_microphone.htm
You can use a high quality conventional mic if you have the right adapters and use audacity (free) software for recording.
Please check out my guide for multi-track recording on a PC:

Hope this helps...

It depends on what you want to record. If it's just voicerecording for chatting etc. then you could do with any cheap PC Mic. As the others stated, they are generally available. If you want to make music recordings, then invest in a soundcard with XLR and a Mic PreAmp, together with a good quality Mic.
Look at zZounds

* Soundcards http://www.zzounds.com/cat--Computer-Music--2417
(Look for USB or Firewire cards)
I Myself use a Samson C-15 and two Beyerdynamic MCE 530 connected to a Tascam 2488. (But that's an independent Multitrack recorder. works great!!)
If you want to buy online, look for the best price, as they can differ a lot. I bought My 2488 for less then 50% then the most expensive offer.

From any shop that sells computer software. I have a headphone with a microphone together, you know, like those people have, er... those people in the middle of runways at the airport. You just put the lead into the green space at the ack or side of your laptop. Sorry to go on but I hope it answers your question.

Hi,
I picked up a £14 stereo clip-mike from Tandy, which is fine not only plugged into the computer, but fot use in my amateur band. It works a treat, Iv'e even used it hooked up to a back pocket tape thing to record those odd conversations you hear in supermarkets, in order to gain ideas for lyrics.
It is made by "skytronic". I reccommend typing in Tandy, or skytronic, if you don't have a local dealer.
Cheers,

you're in seek of an XLR to 3.5mm converter. They do exist, it plugs into the top of the XLR cable and then plugs into the line In / Mic port on the computing gadget (many times next to the headphone port). unsure the place precisely you may locate one regardless of the undeniable fact that.
