Willful ignorance, choosing belief over rationality.

Remember that show The X-Files? Mulder had a poster above his desk that was a picture of a flying saucer with the words, "I want to believe." THAT is perhaps the most dangerous thought, because it is a rejection of both reality and rationality in favor of wishful thinking, belief, emotionalism, and dogmatism.

I am not just talking about flying saucers and pseudoscience, of course. Belief and ignoring contrary evidence are defining characteristics of many religions and political doctrines. The theist believes that a god exists, that the god is his god, and that unbelievers (any who don't share his beliefs) are de facto evil. The politician believes that he knows what's best for others, that his actions will be without negative or unintended consequences, and that he can ignore basic economic laws in "managing" the economy.

And so we have the perpetuation of irrationality, and the resulting suffering, from choosing to believe instead of think.

The most dangerous thing I think is the low level of consciousness of a people with developed mind. Though, if the hearts of this people were open then there were no troubles from them anyway.
