alot of people ask about reality.

i think its odd that we cant actualy point to it and say its real. for example there are ideas such as solipsism and the matrix idea that show there is a possibily that reality doesnt exist and its just a figment of our imagination. however there are also numerous ammounts of valid arguments showing them both hoplessly undermined and foundationless. so with those two theories "possible" yet terribly inconsistent and self refuting. why is it that we cant actualy PROVE that reality exists.

i mean obviousely it does. the rules of common sense and logic and also analogy show that there must be a reality outside of ourselves. even the philosopher wittgenstein showed that language is not possible without another mind.

yet still, why is it that technicaly speaking we cant actualy PROVE or point to it and say this is real?

Since its impossible to prove then I wouldnt worry about it.

Well I think the phrase, "I think, therefore I am" is a pretty good proof. If we're living in a matrix, or all of life is just a figment of your imagination, then your mind must still reside in something real. What's real is what exists, and what exists is real. If you can think, then that very act proves that at the least, your mind exists and is therefore real. Once you've established that, what reason do you have for thinking the world around you ISN'T real?

You're right about solipsism being undermined and without foundation. From a strictly practical standpoint, solipsism is also a completely useless worldview, compatible only with nihilism. It does nothing to advance our understanding of the world around us; if anything, solipsism teaches that it is unknowable and that the pursuit of knowledge is futile. Needless to say, I strongly disagree.

Almost all of what science is, only theory....proposed,supposed and imposed on us by minds that think they are so knowledgeable that they think they can and have to explain everything, they think that everything has an explanation.....they think that "IF" they can explain life to everyone and get everyone to agree with them, then they can conclude that there is NO GOD.....But every time they think they're on the brink of the final discovery...that's when GOD steps in and throws a monkey wrench into their so called theories, philosophies and gives them something more to try and explain....They (the scientist and philosophers) will never run out of things to try and explain away, because, GOD isn't going to let them become gods.....which is what they want to be......They may be able to discover this and that.....but the this and that was created by a much more intelligent power than they could ever imagine.....and they will never match "HIM".......So let them propose, suppose and impose all they want, they're still only guessing....as the past has shown.....theories change.....If their theories are so perfect why do they change with time, change with different scientistr and philosophers.....they can't even agree amonst themselves.......theories change.....the facts don't......

I find it encouraging to think that language only proves that there are more than one of us here. As to the reality outside of ourselves, well who cares? Wouldn't it be nice to think that it isnt real? We could change it at any time? That the laws prescribed to the workings of the world are only the ones we decided to invent? I don't believe in this world. I believe in the minds here, I love nature but what has gotten out of hand needs to be stopped. Everyone grab a squeegee and a bucket, we're going rabbit hunting!

First of all you have to define reality. You can't prove anything unless you can define it. Second of all, solipsism is not "self refuting" as you say. Don't forget, man developed language and definitions. Therefore, man can really define anything as he or she wishes, can prove or disprove anything he or she wants merely by calling something valid. It's all extremely relative. It's way too scary for man to wrap his or her arms around the thought of solipsism, so naturally it is going to be deemed "foundationless" when it is not.

It all sounds like a mental circle jerk to me and about as much of a waste of time. I don't know about you, and I don't spend a lot of time thinking about it, but I know what is real, and what is real to me is all that matters.
