Like, would I have to use paint? Or chrome foil? Or anything?! Is it even possible?

I am preparing for a convention coming up pretty soon, and I am making a wooden katana that is very similar to the real thing. I already have a wooden katana that I bought from years ago, but it looks like the picture I provided above. Is there a way I can cover the blade with some silver paint or something that can make it look realistic?

Definately paint it. Foil etc risks being damaged too easily and you'd soon tire of having to treat your sword like it was made of glass.
You might also consider painting that wavy line that the real thing has down the blade. Masking tape cut to shape would work best.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/eTBXk
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

that looks like a wood stain, the one in the picture looks very high quality and i wouldn't reccomend altering it for any reason.. but if i were to attempt to give it a metallic look i would sand it with a fine grained paper, and use a chrome colored spraypaint.
maybe somebody with more knowledge in this area can be of more help, good luck!
