Everyone has their own reasons for supporting the clubs they do. Lets not forget that these clubs mentioned are hugely successful and have done the work to market themselves on an International basis also. They have strong performances and players who are very talented, well liked and enjoyed. They have good Managers who get the best consistently over the seasons from their teams and can compete successfully Internationally. They are always going to have a huge supporters base. Even though they will all have some bandwagon supporters, most support with their heart.

Personally cos I was born in Salford and was brought up a Man U fan, Eric Cantona signed my arm when I was 10years old and I didn't wash for a week!

But other people who have not always supported their local team just like watching a higher level of football and the better players I suppose? If you had a choice, you had no loyalty to any team would you not just choose one of the big four?

Well I can see the angle your taking this, but some of us have supported our team when they have finished out of the top four, for quite a few years. But for a young kid at school that has just got into football.. unless he's influenced by family, he will pick one of the top four, because apart from trophy's he will see the best football and footballers playing for them.

giggs you should do your home work first, do you know how many members AFC have? I think you'll be surprised.

Have supported Chelsea since they were promoted from old division 2 back in the days of Kerry Dixon and co. Also I have been to see my local side Southend Utd about 15 times this season and would class myself as more a Southend fan than Chelsea. It was the greatest match I have ever been to when Southend beat Man Utd 1-0 this season in the carling cup. Yet people still try and slaughter me for being a Chelsea follower!!

Generally these four clubs have been successful in recent years and that could be the one of the reason.I believe most of these supporters are from other countries notably Asia where EPL is very popular as compared to Bundesliga ,La-liga,Serie-A for example. So this comes to no surprise the support they get.For the rest I guess they are well supported by the locals.

cause they are the teams that win trophies! They are glory hunters! I live in London and the amount of people that live here and support man u, Liverpool etc and have never even been up north! I am no glory hunter obviously cause i am a crystal palace fan and Selhurst park is 5 minutes from my front door! We will get promotion into the Premiership next season!

There are usually three reasons:
1) They usually win most of the matches, and are reliable teams for punters and betters alike
2) They want to mix in with the crowd (Man Utd fan? Come join us!)
3) Hard-core supporters

I guess it's nice to watch a good game of football. If you live in Torquay you could support your home team but going to the matches would be a little dull and frustrating. If you support Man Utd though you can watch some fast paced games, collect the merchandise and perhaps have your team win. It could be classed as glory supporting but if your team sucks so much they aren't worth watching you may as well go and watch a team which are better.

they are all glory hunters, who live not to far from there local team ,who need there support .they say they support these top teams .but only from the t v.that's how much of supporters they are .they can say they wear there shirts ,but go down to any JJB sports shop they are all in there .i put them in the same category as five year olds, because that is what parents do to little children, buy them shirts to shut them up.fair do to the ones who go to these teams ,but the ones who just sit on there backsides and criticise there ridicule there local sides i have no time for.

since when are you including chelsea and arsenal as the best supported clubs. third by a country mile would be newcastle, and fourth would be spurs, arsenal and chelsea would be fighting with the likes of leeds everton and man city for 6th spot.

get your facts right before you off on a glory hunting rant, when MANCHESTER UNITED were in division 2 and hadn't won the league in 7 seasons they were still the best supported club in the world.
