"how far" >I have looked this up before for others, it's only slightly more than 1 mile to the strip from the Palms/Rio/Gold Coast. I looked it up because it seems much further. I would recommend against walking to/from the strip.

It's about 2 miles. Not a horrible distance to walk, but not a particularly scenic stroll either... crossing over the I-15 freeway.
And I wouldn't recommend walking it during the day in summer... our temps are already hitting the high nineties right now, and with the sun beating down on you that would be unpleasant to say the least.
On the other hand, if you're planning on going from the Palms to the Strip (or vice versa) during the peak of Friday or Saturday night traffic, then you might as well walk. Not only will it be free, but you'll get there quicker.
p.s. I had to giggle at "plams"... I work with a Las Vegas travel agency and we actually call it the Plams at the office because that is such a common typo =).

First off, I have been going to Las Vegas for years so I know what I am talking about.
Everything in Las Vegas is farther away than it looks. Anyone who thinks the walk from the strip to the Palms is easy is probably one of those people who runs marathons. I always marvel at people who think it wise to waste valuable vacation time walking miles along a miserable, concrete sidewalk with nothing but more concrete to look at all the way. It was nearly a hundred degrees last week! The skys are nearly cloudless most of the time. There is practically nothing along the route from the strip to any of the outlying hotels.
If you cannot afford a cab or rental car, you would do much better to stay on the strip. Many of the Strip hotels have trams, tunnels or walkways that connect them. There is also a monorail that serves the hotels on the eastern side of the strip all the way to the Convention center.
Trust me, there is way too much to see and do to waste time walking. MINIMIZE WALKING/MAXIMIZE DOING!

i've got been to Vegas two times. the 1st time I stayed on the strip and the 2nd time I stayed a pair of mile off the strip. the two inns have their execs and cons. while you're finding at saving some money and staying in a outstanding lodge off strip i might advise The Orleans. you could e book rooms from everywhere $25 - $89 based upon the time of the 300 and sixty 5 days which you e book. there's a unfastened commute that runs from the lodge to the strip (the Golden Nuggett) diverse situations in the process the day & night. On strip, I stayed on the MGM Grand. sign up on their internet site to get bargains and specials by way of your e mail which at the instant are not available to the final public. it is a great place to stay as there is plenty to determine and do genuine there on the lodge. Have a great time and good success!

It is west of the strip (where the Golden Nugget & the Palace) past both the highway and The Rio. True, it does seem to be close by car but your talking about dessert blocks. I would just hop in a taxi. Also there is not much to see between the strip and The Palms (except for Pinkies billiard hall).

It's about 3 blocks. You can walk at night but during the day take a cab because it's tooooo hot in the summer.

It depends on where you staying on the strip. If you're staying at the Flamingo then you might to able to walk but if you're staying at the Circus Circus then no! It's still a long walk from the Flamingo so take a cab!

Cab it. It's not super far, but you're crossing over the freeeway, and people drive like absolute maniacs out there! (I also think sidewalks are limited for a portion of that walk.)

Depending on where you are staying you can pick up a free shuttle at Bally's or at Harrah's that will take you to the Rio. From there it is a fairly short walk.
