Joy in life is worth the struggles in life.
Often times it takes both Pain and Joy to teach the lesson of gratitude.
I feel that gratitude is the lesson. With it nothing is taken for granted.

Yes we take things for granted. "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you got til it's gone, take paradise and put up a parking lot. Joanie Mitchell I think. Personal Joy must come from within, because"things" fail miserably in bringing us joy. It has been posited that we have a base level of joy, that we tend to return to after we win the big game, or buy a new car , or any of the myriad diversions we bring into our lives. If we have a base level of joy, then perhaps we can increase that level, by growing in awareness, and compassion, living and loving family and friends, becoming more deeply involved in our obligation of service to our community. Just a few suggestions as much for me as anyone else.

I've already attained inner peace (some would call it just being mellow), so I find joy in life all around me. However, the two biggest sources of joy in my life are my wife, and intellectual pursuits. And, well, OK, there's also World of Warcraft. :-)
As for whether too many humans take life for granted, I don't know, but it does seem to me that a lot of people either seem to just be living one day to the next, or else they live life as if (or actually) in preparation for an afterlife. And I don't know about their own life, but too many of us seem to put a rather low value on the lives of others.

I think most everyone takes a lot of things for granted. Be sure to be grateful for everything. Count every single blessing including the gift of being able to live, feel, and experience. In my experience what brings the most joy to life is being of service to others. As humans we are naturally self-centered and nothing gets us more spiritually centered than focusing and caring on someone besides ourselves.

it is an interesting question. I also ask myself the same question several times. what bring joy in my life is when my plans go well and get what I wonted right. In these situation I see life as a means to an end. success is the end and I measure it against what i wanted to achieve.
But when I fail to achieve what I wanted I tell my self to live is an end by itself so I will be greatful coz i am living.

well 2morrow is my 30th birthday and always before i asked myself what i wanted for my birthday (2 bring me joy) but today i was pondering that same question and i realized that i already have everything,,,my family that joy is the greatest joy i think i could ever know...to tuck my daughter in at night,,,kiss my wife when i get home from work,,to call my dad and talk about football,,to get reassurance from my mom that everyhing ill be allright,,,so to answer your question i can only hope that at some point in our lives we realize that family nd love will bring all the joy we need in our lives,,and deep down we all know that and dont take it for granted

Laughter!!! It becomes an instant vacation!
Yes, I believe most of us do take life for granted, until or unless something earthshaking occurs in our life - then we begin to look at things in a different light, and usually no longer take life for granted.

we do, global warming, but what can we do, its in the nature of humans to be productive and express their ideas in several ways. In 4 years i become an architect, i enjoy looking into the blue skys and above and beyond all the large structures wondering of new possibilities in human occupation. Drawing keeps me occupied and tests my creative skill as i am unlike the many that study design, i seek for a cause that all the study in the process of my creations be a work of art as the end product

Hi,
Any person who is seriously desirous of achieving real happiness/ Joy must seek out a bona fide spiritual master and take shelter of him by initiation. The qualification of a spiritual master is that he must have realized the conclusion of the scriptures by deliberation and arguments and thus be able to convince others of these conclusions. Such great personalities, who have taken complete shelter of the Supreme Godhead, leaving aside all material considerations, are to be understood as bona fide spiritual masters."

Ok basically, I've realized that those who dont have **** around the world love life and apreciate it. I've noticed that alot of my American buddys take alot of things for granted, maybe even life.
