This is a real tough situation. And with such incidents getting common, its not something you can say as "It will never happen".
Actually when I think of it, I see no solution. A psycopath with a gun means business. He wont care to talk to you and be friends as some one suggested . I will call out to my god, thnk of my dear ones and hope i live through it.
If his gun is a revolver, maybe I can try moving in some zig zag manner and tackle him. But in case it is a machine gun, I dont see much options other than to expect he does not know how to disengage the safety lock.

I would try to befriend the individual as even a psychopath is less likely to shoot a friend and try not to show fear but be ready for the end of the line.

Pray he/she doesn't shoot.
And prepare for if he/she does.
Then ask him/her if there is anything that I can help with, try to make them relax and let their guard down for a possible escape or sabotage.
If the psycho is far enough away and I was not with my children and I am able to run in a zig zag motion to get away I would do that.

I'd like to say that I'd whip out a few moves and have him flat on his back before you can say "psycho"...
but I'd probably freeze up...and if he doesn't shoot me right out...try to calmly reason with him.
I'd probably be a goner wouldn't I?

Well, I would use the legally carried and concealed firearm that I carry,and shoot him, before he harmed me, my family, or other innocents.
