People now after the Virginia Tech massacre are actually talking about how beneficial it would be if everybody in the State carried a weapon. My father was a police officer for 26 years in a big city and he always thought it was a bad idea for people to have a gun in the house for "protection," even if the owner was taught how to use it. He said that it was usually the owner who got hurt, not the criminal because most "regular people" won't shoot. Or, even worse, the owner shoots their teenage kid coming home later than expected and trying to be quiet so as not to be detected or a spouse having gone downstairs for warm milk. Now imagine everyone carrying?! Yikes!

It is one of our freedoms and is written in the constitucion of the USA. The right to keep and bear arms..
The benefit of having good people armed is that bad people can not dominate society..
I am not afraid of good qualified people having a gun..
I hate it when I go to a bank and the security guard only has a radio.. What a fool, he is the first one to be shot and how can he protect me? I like the guards to be armed and trained..

I would like to see a citizens home army trained and qualified with GOOD citizens armed at home. Required to qualify every year and keep their weapon in good shape.. People with no police record and no mental health problems..

Not all residents can have a gun. There are security checks, crimminal records checks, even mental health checks for some aspects of gun ownership.

Not confusing at all - a very strict set of rules designed to keep people safe.

Gun training is expected, and in some states, required for gun ownership.

More dangerous is not having training, not checking to see who is getting a gun.

American Citizens don't need permission to own firearms anymore than citizens of other countries do.

Every person has the God given right to defend themselves, their homes and their families.

Thankfully, the Constitution of the United States has a Bill of Rights which recognizes, and that is recognize- not grant, the right of the citizens to keep and bear arms.

Sadly, citizens of other countries have been oppressed by their governments and brainwashed into believing that the government has sole responsibility for defending citizens against criminal attack. Please note that with confiscation of privately owned firearms in 1938, Adolf Hitler declared that German citizens were now safe.

FWIW, the United States is not even among the top three countries in terms of per capita firearms ownership. Switzerland, Finland, and Israel have much higher per capita firearms ownership. In fact, if an Israeli citizen wants a gun and does not have one, or cannot afford one, all they have to do is go to the local police station and check one out.

Again, FWIW, more terrorist attacks have been thwarted by armed Israeli citizens than there have by the IDF or police. That is probably one reason the Moslem terrorists have stopped trying to make terror attacks with firearms and switched to suicide bombers.

Think about it this way:

If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

Criminals have no issue with getting a gun illegally. Giving 'ordinary people' the ability to own guns makes the playing field more level, and criminals won't be so confident that they'll get away (with their lives) when committing a crime.

We are given the right to own a gun, like any other thing in a free society. Other countries that banned guns, opened the door to tyrany and oppression because they knew the population could not fight back.

Because it's our constitutional right to be able to keep and bear arms. (And sometimes arm bears . . . never mind, that's just a joke). In this country it's necessary to protect one's self, loved ones and property.

When a country takes away its citizen's guns, it is a step toward facism. Hitler did it in Germany before WW2.

And never doubt it - I would have no compunctions about shooting someone who broke into my house.

I wouldn't have it any other way. Guns don't kill people. People kill people. Its not a benefit; its a constitutionally mandated right.

Because Americans are stupid wankers. A baby was able to get a gun and the NRA runs the country.
