I promised myself that I could do without the car for a month, so I have been cycling everywhere. Ive not even opened the car door for just under 4 weeks. I know the battery will probably be flat and will need charging. I am going to start driving it again in a weeks time. What other things, if any should I need to check ?

Nothing. Maybe check the oil and rest of fluid levels. The battery should not even be low. I left USA for 11months three times in a row and my car started perfectly every time.
Though I did add fuel stabilizer before I left. 4 weeks is nothing to a car.

I often leave my car for 12 weeks when travelling on business even in the coldest winter it still starts with ice and snow covering it.So yours should be no problem if it has a good battery. It seems that many don't understand about a car standing. If you did stand your car for one year then you would problem have to check things like brakes and the clutch had not stuck to the flywheel.

You car should be fine, and it should start on its own after 4 weeks, if it doesnt I would think about replacing the battery. Cars stand for longer than that on the garage forecourt. So don't worry....

Well done for cycling everywhere for the past four weeks

4 weeks is nothing, but if youplan to cycle for a year, you should do this:
Leave the gas tank with the minimum possible this because fuel degrades, disconect the batery negative terminal, and flush the of the pan, this way you could store a car with no damage, also you can mount it on jack poles and you could cycle the world for a lot of time.

Check the usual fluid levels to make sure there has been not any leaks. The rear brakes may have rusted up but normally after you get the car started reverse back to free them up.

I also agree that 4 weeks should be fine, but you should start it and let it run for a bit once a week just to be sure you don't have a dead battery when you do need it!

no not that short of time you don't have to worry about nothing but you battery may go dead you can avoid that if you disconnect the cable .it is better to disconnect the neg. cable to avoid shorting something out. if you left it unattended for along time like several years then that would be a problem your brakes can rust up and ever thing have to be replaced

Nothing to worry about 4 weeks is not long enough execpt batterys. But if it started on its own its ok if you had to jump it you should buy a battery.

Almost certainly the brakes will have a bit of rust on them, and will be a but rough for a mile or so.
