To be honest, the Spurs are a bunch of whiners and floppers and Bowen is a dirty player. They complain after every call, especially Duncan and Ginobli and try to fake fouls every play. Everyone knows Bowen is a dirty player and if you ever watch him, every time there is a screen on him, he shoves the guy out of the way and never gets called for the foul. Not to mention his knee to Nash's groin and an assortment of other dirty plays. I do not like the Spurs at all, they are a good team and have a good coach, but they are not likeable at all. Even Popovich makes me mad. Michael Finely is one of the only guys I like on the team. He is a class act, but almost the rest of the team I really hate. People only like them if they are from San Antonio (I wouldn't like them even if I lived there) or are those band-wagon and fair-weather fans who just pick a team they know will win and make it far in the playoffs every year. Other than that I have no idea why someone would want to be a Spurs fan. And that is the truth.

Became a Spurs fan at age 4 (I live in Atlanta) because I loved David Robinson, been a fan ever since.
Your question is silly. Why are people fans of any team? Most are geographic: people in San Antonio like San Antonio, duh. And others have other reasons, just as valid as reasons to like any other team. Some people like exciting basketball: so they like the Suns. But others like classic, traditional, fundamental basketball: so they like the Spurs.
There are a host of other reasons to like the Spurs. Some people love the international flavor: San Antonio has more foreign players than any other team.
Some like their class. Contrary to the crap the media has fed you, the Spurs are the classiest team in the league. When do you hear a Spurs plan dissing the other team after a game? Never. When do you hear a Spurs team dodging responsibility? Never. They are a team in the truest sense of the word. They are professional. Complaining about calls? Every star does it, it's part of the game: by reminding the refs you're there, they pay more attention. It's not just the Spurs.
And some just like their... what to call it? Morals? You never hear about a Spur shooting up a night club, or getting fined for some illegal behavior. They never get in fights. You don't hear their owner mouthing off about the refs after each and every game. The Robert Horry-Steve Nash issue? Go back and watch the replay: Spurs players are HELPING RESTRAIN Suns players. No fighting.
And, naturally, some people are fans of the Spurs for the same reason they're fans of the Yankees or Patriots: to be fans of the best. Spurs have the best overall record in professional sports over the past 10 years.
And, lastly, some are fans because they became fans for a specific reason ages ago, and just never stopped.
So, those are the reasons why people are fans of the Spurs. Same as the reasons for any other team. Don't buy the media crap about the Spurs being dirty: if the Spurs were dirty, wouldn't the NBA suspend their players more often? As long as the Spurs play within the rules as enforced by the NBA, what right does anyone have to complain that they're breaking them? Either come out and say "the NBA is rigging the games for the Spurs benefit" (the stupidest accusation ever) or get over it.

I agree. Anyone who calls the Suns wusses because they can't take a hard foul: What the hell is wrong with you? Steve Nash, Amare, and Diaw were all ready to go when Steve got checked. If they were wimps they would shy away from the fighting. However, if the punching would have gotten started, Duncan, Horry and company would have been on the floor crying. Who's the sissy then? It ISN'T wrestling, but good luck telling that to boneheaded close-minded Spurs fans. They wont listen, because they don't want to. Inside, they know the Spurs suck and are dirty, but will NEVER admit it. Hopefully the Jazz tear the spurs to shreds in game 2.

Ok this is from A hometown spur living in vegas. Before 2 weeks ago they were the good guys for the nba.Nobody making headlines of any bad drama.People were always saying how can these good guys always be winning.Since TD was drafted
1999 won
2000 western semis
2001 western finals
2002 western semis
2003 won
2004 westen finals
2005 won
2006 western finals leading by 3 with 30 secs left in reg to lose to mavs in ot
But yet there toughness was always been question.Parker and Ginobli have been getting killed all this time esp in denver. Then the get to phoenix and the rest is history. Now they are the bad boys. They are not dirty,Just a hustling physical team.Horry(most rings by an active player)was a hip check and he got what he deserved. They were not trying to injure Nash they have played against him for years as a maverick.Stoudemire is young and feels that bowen was trying to hurt him.Bowen is just a great defender.4 times he has came in second place for defensive player of the year.He only plays against your best player and thats why they hate him.He is good. You ask any player in the nba and they will tell you they hate playing the spurs because of there "D".Tim duncan is the most underated superstar in any sport. He is the ultamet team player and the whining because he got caught fouling or he just got hacked really hard. They have argueable the best bench in the league.

Let me guess...you're a Suns fan.
The Spurs play good, solid basketball. A couple of hard fouls blown all out of proportion by the media--which YOU obviously fell for--does not mean they try to hurt people. They have the fewest personal fouls in the NBA, did the media tell you that?
Whin is not a word. No one on the Spurs team whines any more than any other player on any other team in the NBA. Maybe you haven't noticed that but I've been watching it and laughing about it since before Duncan even joined the team.
If you don't want to like the Spurs, don't. I couldn't care less. But you could at least try to educate yourself before jumping on the insult banD wagon.

Since when are people fans of the spurs? They are soooo boring, only people from San Antonio like them which is understandable. Have you ever seen a random guy sporting a duncan jersey? No, no one likes the spurs.

It's called integrity!.They play as a team. The're real friends with each other.Th're hearts are pure and generous
.Oneal brought his team buddies Rolex watches.when he played in LA, David Robinson donated 5 million dollars to open a school and still supports it.One player went a little fast on his Harley and got a ticket for speeding ,the next day he donated it to a charity auction . The players set examples for our children and we are very proud of them ...so proud that we call them our" SONS OF SAN ANTONIO"
We had rodman on our team a few years ago . Nobody liked him In SA .. He was gone...We're laid back, we work hard and play hard ... we don't get in a hurry and we don't fight,The fans have respect for our players and our, players have respect for us.San Antonio is a is a city but we are also the 13th player. Wet stand strong and proud behind our players,We love them ...for they give our city a great name in every way that counts.God Bless and Good nite!
