In truth , if you're looking to get into ultrasound as a career , most ultrasound programs require you to have radiology experience , or a strong background in math and science , as physics plays a huge role in what we do...you even have to pass a physics registry exam, coupled with a second speciallty befpre you can be considered RDMS ( registered diagnositc medical sonographer.) before you can Many programs even require a prior AA or AS degree for admission . These pre-requisites are tough ...but in the end it's worth it .

Ultrasound is the highest paid specialty in medical imaging, equal to that of Nuclear Med techs. Starting pay out of school usually starts in the 26.00 per hour range ( average).

if you do decide on ultrasound , and begin to look at programs in your area , i HIGHLY suggest making sure the program is accredited with the ARDMS. This is our regulatory body ...and it's sad , but there are many many programs out there that are not recognized by the ARDMS , and as such , these students cannot take their registry exams without a certain number of clinical/work hours/case numbers met. This sucks , not only for the student who now has trouble finding a job , but also for the industry as ultrasound is now has a huge shortage in qualified technologists ....almost in as much need as the nursing industry. WE NEED TECHS BAAAAAAAAAAD...but hospitals are leery to hire a tech who's program is recognized .

ardms.org has listings state by state of all accredited programs.

Good luck my dear....and God Bless.

what's your degree in? If that is medical proper, you will possibly nicely be powerfuble to test out of multiple the courses for radiology. You do could do radiology first, and get your cert in that formerly than you are able to ultrasound. i don't comprehend once you have vocational colleges there, besides the undeniable fact that i comprehend appropriate right here, there are few colleges that do exactly the constrained radiology cert, and then leap you into the ultrasound instructions. have you ever tried calling in all risk the main schools on your discipline, or asking employers approximately what they desire to confirm of their techs? That in all risk a commencing factor. remarkable success!! you will possibly have picked a purely appropriate section!!

If you want to do both, I would suggest doing x-ray first.
