When someone has an issue on their mind and trusts you enough to discuss it, they're not interested in hearing about your issues until they have finished with their subject. They were first. So if you hear but don't listen, your response will be off subject...and rejected. If someone tells you their problem, listen, validate their problem, sympathize or support them in however they have decided to deal with their problem and maybe even ask if there is anything you can do to help them with their problem. After they have exhausted the discussion of their problem, then, and only then, is it appropriate to bring up your own issues.

Give her some time. She is probably pretty stressed b/c of her loss. She'll cool down in a few days, apologize for being insensitive and ask her to tell you again. Then try to explain what has been going on in your life that has caused you some turmoil. Good luck.

i would send her a creative witty kinda card (made by you) that includes a lotta inside jokes and stuff... it also seems like she would like it if u included some information about her dog to show that you know and care. my friend's dog just died too and i wrote things like how cute it was, how i petted it when no one was around, what a long and eventful life it had, remember when she had puppies?.. ya know, things people wana hear. good luck
