Does it make you extra hungry or something? I have a gym membership and I like to work out but I'm scared of gaining weight because most of my friends blame their weight gain on birth control. Is it really the birth control that makes them gain weight? Please any responses would be appreciated. Also, any birth control recommendations? Thank you!

No, it does not make you hungry. The pill changes your hormones to fake your body into thinking you are pregnant. The weight you gain is usually water weight, and it can vary anywhere from 5-20 lbs depending on your body type, and your reaction to the hormones. I would definately recommend that if you do decide to go on the pill that you continue to eat healthy and work out like you have been though. This way the affects won't be such a shock to your body. You might not gain any at all. I've known plenty of girls who never gained weight from it. I gained a few lbs, but not much. I'm not sure how it would have affected me had it not been my sports season. Hope this helps. But hey, gaining a few lbs never hurt a woman, and taking the pill will prevent you from becoming pregnant.

I have always been thin, my body weight sometimes goes low enough for it to be considered very underweight. Thats just how my body is, I eat well and am healthy, I am just skinny.

I have been on the contraceptive pill Levelen ED for almost 3yrs. When I started it at 17, I was 110 lbs, or 50kg. My bra cup size was an "A". Within 2 months, I went up to a size "B", with no obvious weight gain. Now I am 20, my weight is 120lbs or 55kg and my bra cup is a "D".

So for me, weight gain is not a problem, although from what I have heard it is a problem for some. I know at least 4 women on the pill who did not experience weight gain, and one who lost about 11lbs or 5kg when she went off the pill.

For me, Levelen ED has worked well. The only side effects were that I am a little drier now (not much and a good lube fixes that) and the breast growth (I aint complaining!!!) But all women are different. Some have problems on the pill, others do not. Some women find that the problems are solved by trying a different brand.

Best of luck, and I hope I helped

For the most part that is untrue. It doesn't make you hungry or anything like that. Somehow or another hormones and weight gain are connected. Just because you go on birth control pills doesn't mean you will gain weight. For those who do gain weight, it's usually between 5-10lbs. Nothing too much to be worried about.

The hormones can increase your appetite, but it will be the food that you eat that will make you gain weight - especially if it's junk food.

Birth control pills are often prescibed at a time when a girl is still growing into her adult body shape - If you are under 24 years old, it is highly likely you would have gained weight whether you were on the pill or not - because you simply haven't finished growing yet (doesn't just mean height)

It depends on the birth control. When I was on Depo, I gained weight...about 30 pounds total, which forced me to have to work twice as hard at the gym.

I don't know too much about birth control pills causing weight gain, but anything is possible. If that is something you're worried about, talk to your doctor and work with her to find the right birth control for you.

Most of the weight gained while on BC is due to water retention. Keep in mind that the female body is ruled by hormones and sometimes they get out of balance. I had to try 4 different pills before I found one that works for me. I didn't gain much weight but my friend, who was on the same pill, did. It's all individual body chemistry. Talk to your doctor and only get one month of pills at a time...that way if it's the wrong combination of estrogen and progesterone you won't have wasted a bunch of money. Good Luck.

It depends on the person, you might gain weight, you might not. The higer the level of hormones in the pill, the more weight you will gain. Most of my friends have gained weight, some more than others.

Just give it a try for a little while. Eat healthy and work out a lot!

I use Yasmin and the dr told me there is something in it to help curb the weight gain that comes with being on the pill. I've actually lost weight since I've been on it

If you do gain weight whilst on the pill, don't panic! go back to your doctor and get them changed for a different pill. You may have to 'shop around' on different pills before you get one that suits your metabolism. Have a good day.

It depends on the birth control pill, I dont think that is the case for every pill. But serious, do your research, different BC pills have different side effects.
