This Week's Joke

The following is from the US Government Peace Corps Manual for its volunteers who work in the Amazon Jungle. It tells what to do in case you are attacked by an anaconda. This is what the manual said:

1. If you are attacked by an anaconda, do not run. The snake is faster than you are.

2. Lie flat on the ground. Put your arms tight against your sides, your legs tight against one another

3. Tuck your chin in.

4. The snake will come and begin to nudge and climb over your body.

5. Do not panic

6. After the snake has examined you, it will begin to swallow you from the feet and - always from the end. Permit the snake to swallow your feet and ankles. Do not panic

7. The snake will now begin to suck your legs into its body. You must lie perfectly still. This will take a long time.

8. When the snake has reached your knees slowly and with as little movement as possible, reach down, take your knife and very gently slide it into the side of the snake's mouth between the edge of its mouth and your leg, then suddenly rip upwards, severing the snake's head.

9. Be sure you have your knife.

10. Be sure your knife is sharp.

One minor fact about anacondas was left out.

Anacondas first CRUSH their prey before swallowing them. So much for that knife!

I kept snakes for years. When eating they work from the head to the feet.. makes it much easier to eat that way. So this is a joke. It has to be. Keeps the legs and arms from getting all tangled on the way in and for smoother swallowing.

These snakes also always wrap around their prey and slowly asphixiate them before eating. THEN they settle in to eat!

They start at the head and end up at the tail. Every time. hey do NOT suck in their food LOL. The jaw hinge is very very elastic and stretches apart a great distance as the snake very slowly edges its mandible and maxilla over the meal.

The snake even has special trachea so that it can still breathe while doing this. Once the food is past the hinge of the jaw, it is moved down to the stomach by peristalsis, a very delicate squeeze of the many small muscles of its lithe body.

The writer knows diddly about snakes.

OMG! Was that really in the manual? Remind me never to volunteer to go to the Amazon Jungle. I don't even like fishing worms!

Okay. What should I do with my gun? Seriously though, who is going to lay still while an Anoconda is sucking them down it's throat? Was the person who wrote this a survivor of such an ordeal?
