olive skin has alot to do with the climate, obviously being from the south. it is the same in any other meditterranean country like greece, spain,etc. also italy was invaded by arabs and greeks, which explains why southern italians have the features that they have.

Isn't the "olive skin" just a hold-over from days when people would describe those FROM regions where olives are predominantly grown (like Italy) as having olive skin? I mean, their skin isn't actually green-ish or black as in black olives OR purple--gee olives are MANY colors!--:P

I actually have never believed this term was a literal color 'thang--
