If a plane was going down, there wouldn't be enough time for all the passengers to line up, receive instructions about using the parachute, then jump out, one at a time, 10 to 15 seconds apart. It wouldn't happen. You'd get 2 or 3 people out and then the plane would crash. At least with the floatation devices, you might have a chance if you land in water, survive the crash, and make it out. The floatation device could keep you afloat indefinitely (as long as the water isn't too cold and you freeze to death while waiting for rescue ). But if you are truly in a plane crash, most likely you will be killed instantly, unless the plane has just taken off or is near landing. If the plane falls from 36,000 feet, don't think that you'll possibly make it out alive.

Because, it's bad enough thinking you might actually need a floatation device during a flight. If every seat cushion were a parachute, can you imagine how ... "jumpy"... some people would feel???

Good Question! You won't be able to leave a plane until it comes to a complete stop anyway so unfortunately a parachute would not do much good. A flotation device would be handy in case of a plane landing or crashing in the water though.

b/c they don't open the exit doors until you land...so they are thinking u might land on water which is why they gave you a floatation device.

Two reasons - no oxygen above 10,000 feet, and below 0 temps.

And the little masks that drop down....they really don't have Oxygen in them...they're just there to muffle the screams.
