Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift was an entire novel that was political satire of it's day. I'd do an online search for essays about the comparisons and bits of satire, as it's been quite a long time since I've read it.

Don Quixote by Cervantes is also satire. About an ordinary landowner who has read too many books about "chivalry" y. Eventually he goes off his rocker and rides about the countryside "fighting" enemies, thinking he is a "knight errant". At one point, he's attacking a windmill, hence the term "tilting at windmills" to denote an impossible or useless task.

There's also "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" by James Thurber. It has coined the term "Mittyesque" have entered the English language, denoting an ineffectual person who spends more time in heroic daydreams than paying attention to the real world.

Perhaps you could do a google search on Satire in literature. I'm sure it will come up with other suggestions.

Hope all this helps!

A classic example of satire is Gullivar's Travels by Johnathan Swift. Although this is often treated like a story for children, it is actually a satire that criticizes the British government at the time.

"A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift is a satirical look at the problems of poverty and oppression in Ireland in the 18th century.
Lord of the Flies is a satirical look at the breakdown of humanity when the rules are removed. That is, all humans are animals when it is ok to be animals.

In Dante's Inferno The satyre is found in the end of the book when after traversing the spiral descending into the bowels of hell (where he finds residents ensnared in pockets called Bolgia being tormented and named- and they are some of the most heinous criminal in history) At the bottom there is a three headed dragon with Brutus, Cassius and Judas Iscariot each in the mouth of one dragons head. This is VERY early satyre, what Dante was saying here was? Judas betrayed Christ. Brutus and Cassius assasinated Caesar. So Dante was implying In God's eyes they were equal to the man that killed his son. Caesar at the time written was in charge of all military and Government as well as Church... Go figure.

A satire is anything that is making fun of something, basically being sarcastic in order to criticize something that's bigger like societal rules, the government, etc..

Animal Farm by George Orwell is very satiric of Soviet Russia.
