They will not help you to get pregnant but they will help to elevate your folate levels, which will be good for your baby's neural development after s/he is conceived. So, yes, it's very important that you begin taking them now if you're trying to get pregnant. Of course, lots of women don't and they have perfectly happy babies. Since you know about the benefits, though, I'm sure you'll want to give your baby every advantage possible.

I don't know the facts about this but I have been pregnant three times and two of them I was taking prenatal vitamins before I got pregnant. My husband and I were not trying to get pregnant but we did not use any birth control. We kind of just said that if it happens it happens. I heard that prenatal vitamins were a good multi-vitamin and were way cheaper so I bought some and about a month later I was pregnant. The second time I had continued to take the vitamins after I had my baby and got pregnant again. I say yes, or at least it helps me get pregnant.

I asked my doctor what could I do to help get pregnant. She advised me to start taking prenatal vitamins and have sex when ovulating. I started doing so and in the next month I was pregnant (3 months trying). I don't really know if it helped or not but one thing it did do was get me into a routine of taking the pills so when I was pregnant I didn't miss a day. Good luck and hope the best.

They do not help conception, but the do help lower risk of potential health problems for the child.
And yes, it is important to take them--especially folic acid (which your vitamin will have). Most people's diet does not have enough of it--there's only so many sunflower nuts and oranges that a person can eat!
Some foods (especially those sent to developing countries) are now genetically modified to contain folic acid. Grains, etc., and I read recently that a new tomato was developed.
The vitamins will help the mother too! Growing something inside you takes a toll on your body, so anything that can help you stay healthy is a good thing!

No. HPT work solely on detecting HCG in your urine. Prenatals do not cause your body to produce HCG, nor do prenatals have HCG in them. For the healthiest possible pregnancy, you should be taking them, folic acid, eating well and passing on caffeine, alcohol and smoking all before conception. The most important time of growth for a fetus is prior to getting a HPT. Start taking them now and don't stop until you're done nursing :) Good luck and lots of baby dust!

Taking prenatals before pregnancy is recommended for women who will be going through infertility treatment. Otherwise, regular vitamins are fine unless your doctor has told you otherwise (if you are anemic, s/he may recommend starting prenatals right away for the extra iron. Consider taking additional folic acid if you are overweight plus the multivitamin.
Folic acid is the only vitamin that has been shown to actually reduce certain birth defects, so you DO want to be sure you have enough. I would take a supplement in addition to what is in an ordinary vitamin tablet.

They will not increase your chance of *getting* pregnant, but they will help you *maintain* an early pregnancy. A cause for early miscarriage is not enough of certain supplements and taking prenatals will just help your body prepare to support a pregnancy.

They won't help you get pregnant, BUT, taking them before conceiving is extremely good for the baby, because it sets up a good environment. Take them three months before conception is what I've been recommended. They also are all the rage in Hollywood because the folic acid in them gives you better hair and nails, FYI.... There's a bonus!! But if you're having trouble, see your doctor.

They will not help you get pregnant, but they will have prepared a great enviornement to support an early pregnancy and protect the baby against neuro tube defects like spinabifida. I've been on them for a month and we aren't going to try until next month. I took them for 3 months before trying for my daughter.

Absolutly they will help,
They may not aid in conception but they ready your body and egg to concieve a healthy child. The folic acid in the vitamins greatly reduces the risk of birth defects in your child.
