We have a Hayward filter and we change the sand every 5 or 6 years. You see a change in the cycle efficiency after that and you'll see how worn the grains are when youb change the sand. I know some people have *never* changed their sand and I know soem people who don't do it but every 10 years. However I recall 5 years being the lifespan of the sand itself... Your filter manual may say differently though, you may want to consult it.

Good luck!
