Yes, that's natural when you have lots of stress and can't sleep you tend to have an irritable and downward behavior and energy level when you go a long time without sleep.
Sleep is your brain's recharging time and without it fatigue builds up over time and suppresses the brain's normal activity, that and also breaking up nutrients and other unconscious activities that help your body grow and prepare for another day is only present or best during sleep.
Low sleep results in a person whose brain becomes really frisky and stressed organ with no rest and results in all that stuff you said.
It's sorta like my computer when I don't shut it off for a few days. It's performance decreases and starts lagging, becomes non-responsive, and takes a while to process information and commands. One time I opened up Microsoft word and typed something but it didn't appear until 5 minutes later after I sent the command through my keyboard.
Keep plenty of sleep and turn off your comp when done with it for best results! :D

I get that after a couple of days of bad sleep. I use to work weekend nights and on Sunday and Monday I always felt at a low then would pick up after getting normal sleep from sunday and monday nights.
Getting a good amount and good quality sleep is really important. You function a lot better with it then without it. You should consider going to see a doctor if it continues and it can have serious health effects not to mention personal effects as it strains friendships and family relationships if you are constantly in a foul mood.

I think it's the other way around. With depression, comes trouble sleeping, pessimism, stress, irritability, paranoia, etc. Time to rally the support systems and get the coing skills into action! If these symptoms persist over the new couple weeks, or if they worsen, speak to your doctor.

Usually, it's the other way around for me. If I'm stressed out, that's why I can't sleep.

that's typical symptoms of and insomniac/sleep deprivation. Sleep is very vital for a healthy brain and balanced brain chemistry. If you don't sleep you get worn down and the natural refresher cycle of your body gets thrown off.

Yup, absolutly. Every semester at finals, in fact! Sleep is your brain's 'repair and defrag' time, if you don't get enough, your brain doesn't work too well.
