The factory installed AM/FM cassette player keeps telling me to clean the tape player , which has been done many times. What else could it be?
And how much would it cost to fix?

The Honda dealers used to have a special tape cleaning system for this problem. If they still have it most of them didn't charge to do this for you. The problem will be finding a honda dealer that can find the kit after 13 years. My guess is you'll have to do a lot of calling around.

You can try to clean the tape head using isoprophyl alcohol and a Q-tip and clean the head and capstan which should be visible when you open the tape player door. I don't know if you can see those or not on that unit to get to them.

the other option is to replace the unit with a non-honda unit from a stereo store. It would be less expensive to do that than it would be to have yours removed and repaired at a radio shop.

try the honda dealer first, then if they can't help, decide how much it bothers you and how much you use the tape player to serve as a basis as to whether you want to repair or replace it.
hope that answers your question

You could purchase an aftermarket replacement for cheap. The price of an installed replacement would be cheaper than fixing the original. It's 13 years old, it's had a good life.
