Yes, of course. It's called "metal fatigue". It happens to airplane parts, it happens to hair clips, it happens to the struts of car suspensions. With paper clips you force them open them to hold a stack of papers over and over and one day they just snap.

No. But usually I dirty them up, because I use paper clips to etch details into clay, for my ceramics class.
