Hes getting another one on the other side. I 've tried reading about fish disease, but I can't determine which it could be. His fin on his back at the end kind of looks damaged and hes breathing pretty rapidly. He moves around like hes on a permanent adrenaline rush. When he first came home, he refused to eat which was about 3 1/2 weeks ago. He eats now. Hes a tropical fish but I have no idea what kind. I've read about tuberculosis in fish and am concerned about this fish having it. I have a 9 month old baby boy and a 7 year old daughter. Just want to keep us safe and have no idea who to turn to about this question. Any fish experts out there? Really worried.

Your fish is a dwarf gourami (Colisa lalia). That does indeed look like columnaris to me too. To be sure though, does it look at all fuzzy or cottony? If so then it's almost certainly columnaris. The best treatment for Columnaris is an Antibiotic sold under the name Furanace (Nifurpirinol). Other good treatments include Flagyl (Metronidazole), Maracyn TC (Tetracycline) and Furan-2 (compound medication from API). You might find the brand names or the generic names or even other brands that have the same active ingredients.
Treat with one of the above as directed on the package for 10 days to 2 weeks to be sure the infection is cleared up.
Not to worry, it's NOT fish TB. I have seen that up close and personal many, many times and that is NOT what your fish has.
Hope this helps.

Your fish is a gourami, not sure what variety, so many of them now...
Looks like a bacterial infection to me with the red ulcer. Being near the mouth, I would say it's a disease called columnaris, has a variety of symptoms that can occur, but usually they'll show near the mouth or head of the fish. You'll want a broad spectrum antibiotic that treats gram negative bacterias. There's one called Maracyn Two or Maracyn Plus, I believe both of those will treat that as well as the fin rot. Also be sure to keep your water quality excellent and do weekly water changes of about 25%. Also, if you don't have one, pick up a test kit to test for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. The darting around the tank and rapid breathing in conjunction with the bacteria, could all stem from poor water quality. How long's the tank been set up?

Does it look like somebody sprinkled powdered metallic on him? if so, that is called freshwater velvet. provide him an suited dose of malachite eco-friendly. the two that, or upload a teaspoon of aquarium salt to the water for each gallon of water in there. in case you employ the two of those, it extremely is usually a sturdy theory to establish a hospital tank with a sponge filter out (no carbon) If not, that is in all risk because of the fact you have purely been feeding him bloodworms. Fish have nutritional desires, too! try including some flake nutrition or cucumber to his eating habitual.
