The proper way is to soak them in nail polish remover for about 5 minutes. A hot water soak may just make them soft, but nail polish remover (acetone) should actually dissolve them. At least partially.

Don't use acetone on fake nails unless you want to ruin them. They might not crack, but the acetone dissolves the acrylic. They make non-acetone nail polish remover for acrylic nails.

Yes the acetone will destroy the fake nail.It will cause the fake nail to be weaken and as soon as you use your hand they will crack.It is best to use a non-acetone polish remover.This will not weaken the fake nail

Acetone dissolves the glue bond between your fake nails and your real nails. You might be alright as long as you don't soak your nails. Just take a cottonball and do it like that.

yes, accetone will remove them. I wouldn't paint over them.
