I was reading this on a message board and this has been bothering me all day.

"Finally, I think you'd find that the persona you have imagined I fit, based on my posts here, is far from the sarcastic a$$hole you think I am"

Now, the people on the message board think of this guy as a total sarcastic jackass.
I'm wondering if im just dumb or did he make a mistake in wording? He seems smart and uses big words all of the time.
Any help would be appreciated.

No, it makes no sense. He's basically saying "What you think I am is far from what you think I am."

Yeah, he definitely screwed up. If you take out the extras, like "Finally" and "based on my posts here," you are left with:

I think you'd find that the persona you have imagined I fit is far from the sarcastic a**hole you think I am.

He is contradicting himself here.

A better wording would be:
"Despite what my posts might infer, I am far from the sarcastic a**hole you think I am."

As an after-thought, you will find that many people try to hide their ignorance behind flashy, big words (GWBush, for example). Anyone can read a dictionary; it is using the words in the right context that make them effective. =)

Actually there are no grammatical mistakes in the sentence, but the persona that you imagined that he fits, is the same as the sarcastic assshole you think he is. So if made simply, The person you imagined I were, is far from the assshole you thought I were. But they're the same thing, right?

That response makes sense to me. He used very good grammar and punctuation. The only thing that I would change would be to add two "that"s in there, making the sentence read...

"Finally, I think you'd find that the persona you have imagined THAT I fit, based on my posts here, is far from the sarcastic a$$hole THAT you think I am"

I don't think you are dumb, maybe you just read it wrong.

I think he did use some incorrect wording in that sentence.
I think he was trying to say "I am not a sarcastic a$$hole like you seem to think I am." He is probably very smart anyway; he only made one sentence structure mistake. Though, don't be fooled by big words! What message board is this?

yea he made a mistake in wording.

Finally, i think you'd find that the persona you have imagined that i fit (which is based of my posts here) is .........this is where he contradicts himself. he then says that the person they percieve him to be is way far away from the guy who they think he is. he messed up big time!!! didn't help him one bit i bet!!

He is trying to say that he is far from being a sarcastic a hole. He doesn't write well, and others don't read well.

he sounds like an egomaniac to me...

basically he is saying "I am really not the sarcastic asshole many claim I am, based on what I have written in my posts here"...

unless he writes of fluffy butterflies and hills of sunflowers, I doubt he has is worthy of such a statement...

if he really is what he says he is (based on the quoted excerpt you have provided), he would never refer to himself as a "sarcastic asshole"...

and I doubt this is due to low self-esteem...b/c he seems to have LOADS of it...:D
