Does anyone have a natural solution to help remove the damp, musty smell from a basement? I have used the commercial pellets before, but I'm hoping for something non toxic. When I turn my AC on, it pulls that smell up through the entire house.

It sounds like you have excess moisture in your basement. Have you tried running a dehumidifier? It will take the moisture out of the air and that could eliminate the smell.
They cost about $100, and I would recommend everyone running one in their basements!

Never mind cat litter. It's expensive and you can use oil dry from a auto parts store and achieve the same results.
As for the musty smell agreed run a dehumidifier and also check with a local fire restoration and cleanup business.
I purchased a powder called Malodor Counteractant Powder.
It neutralizes all kinds of odors even fire and it is non-toxic and has a pleasant smell to it.It is also biodegradeable.
It is manufactured by CDC Products Corp 74-16 Grand Ave Elmhurst Ny. The powder works unbelieveable and getting rid of unwanted smells.

you need to ventilate you basement.if you have windows in the basement, open at-lest two of them just one sixteenth of an inch and turn on a fan to circulate the air.Do all this 24/7 and all will be good.Want to try a better fix?install a bathroom fan on an exterior wall, locate the bathroom fan down close to the floor, say within 6 inches of the floor, vent it to the outside, for the first month or so run the fan 24/7.After that just run it say from 6 at night till 6 in the morning.put in on a timer to do this for you.this should fix the problem, does not cost a lot of money and is easy to do. Cheers :)

Run a dehumidifier. If you can see mold on the walls or floor or ceiling, you can wash it with clorox and then paint it with a cement/ waterproofing paint. On a nice day, open the windows, and let it air out.
