I say that bestsellers are oft times overplayed. And so I complete a list of those overplayed, perhaps, yet also some stuck in the background:
My Name is Asher Lev, by Chaim Potok
The Gift of Asher Lev, by Chaim Potok
The Chosen, by Chaim Potok
The Promise, by Chaim Potok
The Namesake, by Jhumpa Lahir
Animal Farm, by George Orwell
1984, by George Orwell
We the Living, by Ayn Rand
The Other Boleyn Girl, by Philippa Gregory
The Queen's Fool, by Philippa Gregory
The Night Trilogy, by Elie Wiesel
The Pianist, by Wladyslaw Szpilman
The Princess Bride, by William Goldman

This is a little off the wall maybe, but I cannot help but send it .
At your age, you would do yourself an immense favor if you read this one. ^Sara and the Foreverness of Friends of a Feather^ by Jerry and Esther Hicks. There is also a website called Abraham-Hicks(dot)com where it can be ordered from.
I have probably bought nearly twenty copies over time, so I am a big fan of theirs. Oh yes, it is a channelled book. Joy!

Donald Westlake's "Why Me?" or "Drowned Hopes" are comic crime capers.

Bernard Cornwell has some great historical adventures. Depending on which era you are interested in, you can find something.

Clive Cussler's "Sahara" is a great modern adventure.

Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels are a riot. Great sci-fi. I strongly recommend "Guards! Guards!" and "Going Postal."

I can't find where I put it, so I can't remember the author. But, Hot Zone is a highly recommendable book that blew the pants off of any Stephen King book I've ever read.
