What did people think, Pegasus, the constellation, looked like?

The Greeks named it Pegasus, the Winged Horse. So I guess they thought that's what it looked like. Other ancient peoples could have thought it looked like a horse or a big square, but we don't have records of what they thought it looked like.
It looks like a bent tennis racquet or a cooking pot to me.

Before people decided to call that bunch of stars the constellation Pegasus, it was just an unnamed bunch of stars.

Pegasus, was a winged, flying horse in i believe greek mythology. as with other constellations, sometimes the reference and likeness are vague...though, there is a little something to it. often in mythology, the characters are sent heavenward, to be remembered as stars in the sky.
